This painting is called “The Lion of Saint Mark” by Vittore Carpaccio. The first thing my eye is drawn to is the lion. I specifically notice the expression of the lion and how its eyebrows are scrunched and its mouth is slightly open. Two wings protrude from the lion’s back. The wings come in different colors (red, orange, brown, and a bluish/green shade). The lion is holding a book in its claws that states various letters that are either in a different language or simply randomly put together. Half of the lion is on the ground where the land is a mix of sand and grass. Some trees and flowers…

I can see a picture of a woman in a forest full of plants with a figure playing what looks like some sort of flute in the background. The first thing you see is the woman that is sitting in a chair then you see the lions creeping up on her. And then lastly, you can see the figure in the background playing that flute. This might be a representation of how people naturally want a peaceful place they can be themselves but this is not possible because there will always be a threat that wants ruin this peace

Paul Cézanne’s Turning Toad at Montgeroult appears to be a painting of a small village/multiple houses accompanied by a small bridge and grass below it. Cezanne gives these roofs a very smooth appearance. We can see the moon in a distant background in addition to a rectangular door on the far left’s house. The technique used is interesting to say the least; The houses are drawn incredibly smoothly and easy to distinguish, but everything else from the pathway/bridge to everything below is rather blurry. The houses appear to be rising and moving up alongside a hill, with two houses, the ones on the top left and far right, being colored…

The first two things I noticed were the lion and the person sleeping. The lion is male because it has a mane of hair around its neck. The person sleeping has dark skin and is wearing orange and green-striped clothes. The person is also resting on an orange and green-striped pillow. They are also sleeping beside a guitar and an orange vase. Their gender is unclear. It can be assumed that they are a Gypsy due to the title of the artwork. They seem to be in the desert because of the sand but it also looks like they are surrounded by water. I am not sure what the white…

Woman in a Striped Dress by Edouard Vuillard depicts a woman tending to a vase of flowers and wearing a bold dress. The color of the stripes of her dress bleeds into the background, making dark red the overwhelming color in this painting. The subject is the woman, but I found it interesting that her side profile is less detailed than the woman next to her. At first, I actually thought that the woman was standing next to a mirror, and that the other woman was her reflection. The overall murkiness of the painting was confusing to me in the beginning. The emphasis is on the dress she’s wearing with…
