Selvin Rojas’ Discussion Post 1: Descriptive Analysis

The picture with the name Still Life with Three Puppies by the artist Paul Gauguin, at first instance, portrays some fruits in the foreground of it. As the image creates the sense of depth, three chalices are in the Middle ground of the picture and the. To complete the picture, Gauguin painted three puppies feeding on the same pot on the ground.
In the painting there are three main elements, that depending on the spectator’s interpretation they could say that the puppies are at the top of the picture, or they are in background of the picture. Even though the main elements are highly notable, the painter also hid some details such as the faded figured that can be found all over the picture. Such figures seem to resemble some type of flowers but for some reason, whether purposely or accidentally, they are not very clear in the image instead they are sketched but not completed when compared to the rest of the picture.
One primary characteristic of this painting that deserves to be mentioned is that it seems empty. Generally, artworks such as paining tent to fill all the spaces as possible meaning that the artists do not have any spaces in blank and to make their work to look alive, they make they look colorful or add as many elements in the background. But this painting differs since it most of it has a white background, perhaps that is what the author intended to highlight the most the main elements.
